Ulysses boy shot and killed in apparent accident
In Ulysses 12 year old Christopher Coy Brown was killed when a gun in a nearby bedroom discharged as Dusty Cline showed it. The weapon was a high powered deer rifle and investigators from the Grant County Sheriff the Ulysses Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are handling the case. James wife Rayna Vance Brown mother described him as a happy kid who loved video games and jokes. The shooting occurred around 4 27 p m Friday in the 900 block of North Wilson Street. Brown lived with his grandparents Johnny Ray and Deborah Brown. Cline who was handling the firearm is the stepson of Phillip and Rachel Reese. The case remains under investigation with the county attorney to review.

Garden City Man Killed in Iraq With 101st Airborne
A Garden City resident Pfc. Clint Upchurch 31 died Saturday while driving north of Baghdad on active duty. Posthumously promoted to corporal he served with the 101st Airborne Division as a military police officer. He had worked for the Finney County Sheriff’s Office from 1997 to 2004 in jail on the DEA task force and as a patrol deputy.
