Kansas budget shortfall grows to five hundred fifty million
Kansas officials learned the budget shortfall has expanded to 550 million as December receipts missed expectations. The Supreme Court formed a 24 member commission led by Judge Patrick McAnany to review court workloads and costs, aiming to preserve access to justice while cutting expenses amid the state's ongoing fiscal strain. The gap totals about 9 percent of projected fiscal year commitments beginning July 1, with the Legislature and Gov elect Brownback facing a tightened budget environment and no tax hike planned this year.
