Bioscience Authority moves toward private market shift
The Kansas Bioscience Authority voted December 18 to privatize in 2016, with CEO change as Duane Cantrell resigns effective January 1 and Kevin Lockett named interim leader. The agency, created in 2004 to spur bioscience in Kansas, faced budget cuts and a damaging 2012 audit, yet its portfolio reportedly grew under active management.

Lawmakers weigh reducing KanCare drug costs with penalties
A KanCare oversight panel tentatively backed draft recommendations to slow rising drug costs in Kansas Medicaid. The most controversial proposal would withhold expensive hepatitis C treatments from noncompliant patients, a plan criticized as death sentences by Democrats. The panel also supports step therapy by private managers, and KCHE would report on overprescribing behavioral health drugs, especially antipsychotics for children and dementia patients.
