Hugoton wrestling program grows with nine state qualifiers
Hugoton High School coach Brent Mahan recalls the program's rough start in 2008 and celebrates a breakout season. At Maize South, nine Eagles qualified for the Class 4A state tournament and three won titles, lifting Hugoton to a second-place finish behind Andale. Senior Tyler McBride captured 130 pounds, senior Bill Holcomb won 285 pounds, and junior Colten Lissolo took 215 pounds as part of a dominant regional run for a team that grew from small numbers to state contenders.
