Kansas City cattle market with 1400 cattle 100 calves. Cows and heifers up to 25 higher, vealers 25-30, feeders 22.5-25.5. Hogs 2600 head strong to 25 higher, sows steady to 25 higher. Sheep 600 head lambs 25 higher, ewes 50 lower, lambs 16-18, feeders 10.5-14.0.
Three local youths ages 16, 15, and 14 were arrested after smashing a front window of White House Grocery at 513 Inge around 9:45 p.m. No theft occurred. they fled the scene. The 15-year-old was paroled last week for a burglary at Crazy House on US 50. The 14-year-old has prior juvenile confinement, while the 16-year-old has no record. They face Juvenile Court charges.
A new storm moving from the Rockies batters the Midwest with heavy snow and cold. Blowing snow triggers school closures in Nebraska and delays in other states while remote locations face power and travel disruptions. The Augustana College team is marooned in Vermillion after a game due to poor visibility from blowing snow.

The Telegram reports a total of 10,576.16 dollars in annual state aid for Finney County schools. Garden City schools receive 3,086.76, Holcomb 899.64, and rural elementary schools 1,579.76. Tex Demuth will judge 4-H Club Day meetings in Dighton. Tomorrow at 10 a.m. the Chamber of Commerce Coffee Club meets at Garden City Laundry and Cleaners on North 8th.

WASHINGTON AP Senator Hubert Humphrey said there is a good chance Robert C. Weaver will be named secretary of welfare, possibly becoming the first Black member of the Cabinet. Republicans urged the move, citing Weaver as well qualified. Ribicoff expects to campaign in Connecticut while Kennedy's urban affairs plan faces House resistance.
AP reports Salina firm Johnson Builders Inc appears to bid lowest on two highway building contracts in southwest Kansas. They submitted 47 796 for a resident engineer office and four stall equipment garages at Liberal and 33 900 for maintenance offices and four stall garages at Hugoton. Other low bids include LaForge and Budd Construction Co on utilities and tunnels at Parsons State Hospital, Wilmer Co for mechanical work at 33 000, C and H Electric Inc for electrical work at 330, Hicks-Ashby Co for laboratory equipment at Ft Hays State College at 75 439 18.
A Black Angus cow was struck and killed by a westbound automobile one half mile west of Pierceville at 8 40 p m Tuesday. Driver Milburn Payne Jr 23 Atlanta Ga said the cow ran in front of his car. The cow owner is Clay Weldon Pierceville and the animal valued at 150 dollars with about 300 dollars damage to the vehicle.
Cimarron sophomore Robert L. Timken of Fort Hays State College earned election to the Seventh Cavalry, a men’s honorary society. Timken, a dusi ness major and Phi Eta Sigma member, is noted for scholastic achievement in Cimarron. Kansas City had the poorest pitching in the American League last season with a staff allowing 4.74 runs per nine innings.
Edward F. Arn a Wichita attorney and former Kansas governor announces his bid for the Republican nomination to fill the unexpired U S Senate term of the late Andrew Schoeppel Arn urges a wide open primary with a united front and cites a record of tax restraint and public service including roles as state attorney general 1947 48 and governor 1951 53 He highlights achievements like the Department of Administration Kansas Turnpike Authority and Veterans Commission and promises to defend Kansas values and national security.
A 10 year old Garden City youth received a sentence not exceeding five years at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory and was granted parole in Finney County Court on Tuesday. Dale Roy Farr of Rt. 1 was sentenced after being found guilty of grand larceny for shoplifting two diamond rings from a local jewelry store.
A fraud charge against former Dighton resident Fred Smith was dismissed in Finney County court after he returned $575 to Wesley Sterling. Smith, now living in California, had been accused of taking payment for work not performed.
Martin Frank Peitz 73 died early this morning in St. Catherine Hospital after years of poor health. A longtime resident for 35 years, he was a mechanic born Oct 8 1888 in Colwich. He married Anna Seller Oct 25 1910 at Andale. Survivors include his widow five sons two daughters a sister 27 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Rosary Thursday 730 p.m. Garland Chapel Funeral Friday 930 a.m. at St Mary's Church with Fr Clemant Goubeaux officiating Burial at Valley View Cemetery.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Eskridge Methodist Church for Benjamin J. Munzer 76 father of Mrs Edwin Hooper 1212 Pinecrest. Munzer was killed in a car truck crash near McPherson last Friday. Mrs Munzer is still in a McPherson hospital. Survivors include the widow and daughter nine sons Claude Lancaster Calli two daughters Mrs Cora Veen Schoten Hesperia Mich and Miss Ruby Munzer Hutchinson and two grandchildren. The Munzers were en route to Garden City when the accident occurred.
