Ex Teacher Virginia McManus Convicted in Vice Case
Former teacher Virginia McManus and Beatrice Sarfield were found guilty of vice charges after police raided Beatrice Garfield's apartment, center of operation for 15 to 200 call girls earning around $400 each over three years. McManus, 25, previously acquitted on related charges, represented herself as a teacher. Both women await sentencing February 25 in Women's Court.

Boiler blast damages Wichita packing plant in Garden City
A boiler explosion at the Cudahy Racine Colunipae power plant in Wichita caused $100,000 damage to three aerial routes. No injuries were reported. The blast occurred about 1:36 a.m. today, lifting a wall of the plant machine shop and shattering a wall on the third floor of a new building.
