AP reports Kansas City livestock trade with cattle 600 calves steady with steer and heifer values around 23.00 to 25.50 and 23.50 to 25.25 respectively. cows 12.50 to 15.75. Hogs 2,000 head active with barrows and gilts up 25 cents and 1-3 190-250 at 17.00 to 60. sows 250-450 between 14.50 and 15.50. Sheep 50 head not established.
Southwestern Bell Telephone Co sets June 1 as tentative start for a large Garden City plant expansion. Local manager Bob Wright says architect Howard Blanchard is retained to design a two story addition, with a new south extension, upgraded parking, and a basement for power and equipment. The project doubles floor space and includes a front office, switchboard, and traffic equipment areas.
The World Bank will lend Ghana 47 million dollars to support the Volta River power project, lifting capacity from 70 000 to 589 000 kilowatts. The total cost reaches 324 million with an American led Kaiser Aluminum plant. The 25 year loan carries 5 percent interest. Ghana contributes 98 million and the US funds most outside financing amid political considerations around President Kwame Nkrumah.
