City Amends Fowl Zoning Rules for Urban Lots
City commissioners moved to loosen rules on keeping fowl in residential areas, allowing up to 70 pigeons of the Columbidea family with per lot limits and shelter requirements. Officials cited health safety concerns and similar policies in Lawrence and Garden City as justification for the amendments. The meeting also approved 104000 in funding from Alcoholic Liquor Fund and Community Grant funding to multiple area agencies, with several groups not receiving funds due to statutory criteria or prior allocations. The commission schedule includes a Feb 15 retreat at Finnup Center and a Feb 21 meeting at City Administrative Center.
