Wind energy bill eyed to unlock Kansas cooperatives
Lincoln County attorney Robert Crangle backs House Bill 2631 as a way to cut barriers for farmers to form energy cooperatives and transmit and sell wind and solar power wholesale. He notes the wind rich county could finally add a generator, challenging the current system and broadening rural economic prospects. Bruce Graham for Kansas Electric Power Cooperative says existing law already permits such ventures.

Kansas Deer Hunting Push Cuts Vehicle Collisions
Increased deer hunting in Kansas correlates with a drop in vehicle deer crashes. State officials expanded antlerless permits, with 2000 permits exceeding 160,000 and deer killed around 105,000, while deerRelated accidents fell to 9,500 from a peak above 10,000 in 1999. Officials foresee economic benefits near 10 million annually and plan a public impact report. Some hunters worry overharvest may reduce good sport, and Norton deliberations on 2002 2003 season regulations proceed.
