State regulators approve Westar rate increase in parts
Kansas regulators approved a $3 million rate rise for Westar Energy while about half the customers will see bill decreases. Northern region customers face a 4.7 percent rise, averaging $3 more monthly, while southern region shoppers gain a 4.2 percent saving, about $3.47 monthly. The commission set a 10 percent allowed profit, below Westar’s request, and noted fuel and environmental cost pass-through lowers risk. The decision follows Westar’s 2002 asset divestiture and debt reduction, with critics aiming for broader cuts.
