Blustery and mostly cloudy tonight with east flurries possible. Lows 10 to 20. Friday brings partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the 20s east and near 40 west, then mostly clear Friday night and lows 5 to 15. Saturday turns cloudy with 30 to 40 high, then Sunday snow likely with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens.

State fire officials labeled the ConAgra Beef Co blaze the year's most costly. Two state fire marshals completed on site investigations after Thursday morning talks with witnesses. Officials estimate damages in the tens of millions with further lab work and interviews ongoing and no foul play suspected.
Farmland National Beef of Liberal offered jobs to 10 to 15 people today many former ConAgra Beef Co. employees after a fire wiped out a third of the plant. Interviews are set at Wheat Lands Best Western with talks by Farmland’s training coordinator Carl Ulibarri. ConAgra officials meet to discuss openings as rivals recruit. Other plants including Nebraska Land Beef, Beef Products Inc. IBP and National Beef advertise locally.

Mark Green of Schwieterman Inc. warned effects would be limited to a 75 to 100 mile radius as packing plants adjust. About 4,000 head were out of daily processing due to the fire.
Kansas will keep four congressional districts after the 2000 census but redrawn boundaries will shift to reflect an 8.5 percent population gain to 2,688,418. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th districts will be adjusted by the Legislature, reviewed by courts, with changes likely in 2002. Republican David Adkins leads the reappointment effort.
