All That Jazz youth workshop deadline Tuesday

Warren dies at 91. longtime Kansas Senate member

Joe Warren a Maple City farmer and cattle rancher died Tuesday at a Winfield hospital at 91. A Democrat, he was elected to the Kansas Senate in 1956 and served 32 years before retiring in 1988. Funeral set for Saturday at Rindt Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.

Governors Hometown Heritage Act proposed in Kansas

Senator Derek Schmidt of Independence filed a bill to require the transportation secretary to create Governors of Kansas Hometown signs. Communities would request signs funded by private gifts, using a contest chosen logo, designating the governor’s hometown as where they lived when first elected. Thirty communities have produced 44 governors, with Wichita and Independence among notable origins.

Fees cut into attendance at state historic sites

Kansas State Historical Society faced a 13 percent funding cut over two years and began charging admission in February. Attendance reportedly fell about 30 percent statewide, though revenue nearly doubled from donations. Garden City to offer free Christmas tree pickup and mulch program
