Al-Qaida link alleged in Detroit plane bombing attempt
A Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria, Abdul Muhallah, claimed al-Qaida instructions as he tried to detonate an explosive on descent into Detroit. Passengers subdued him, authorities say the attempt was terrorism, and security was heightened. The plane had 278 aboard, departed Nigeria via Amsterdam, landed safely. Authorities questioned the suspect and coordinated with federal agencies. President Obama was briefed and monitoring the situation.
