Wichita VA cuts staph infections in half since 2007
The Robert J. Dole Medical Center in Wichita says its staph infections dropped by about 50 percent after implementing nose swab screening of all incoming patients in March 2007 and isolating those who test positive for MRSA. The program, adopted nationwide, expanded to the hospital’s nursing home in August. Peggy Hopkins leads prevention efforts, noting four to six patients are isolated at any time. Other Wichita hospitals report similar declines due to high-risk patient screening.

Study finds extreme body images harm gamers’ self view
Kansas State University psychology professor Richard Harris and graduate student Christopher Barrett report that after 15 minutes viewing extreme male or female body types in games like WWF WrestleMania 2000 and a beach volleyball title, both men and women showed more negative body images.
