State employees logged 8,619 out-of-state trips costing 1.7 million dollars in the last fiscal year ending June. Out-of-state travel rose by 137,030 over 1970, which had 8,183 trips outside Kansas. The figures cover transportation hotel rooms and meals with a 24 dollar per day room and board allowance outside Kansas.
Trips by faculty and staff at the six state colleges and university accounted for most out-of-state travel in fiscal 1971. University personnel logged 5,038 trips costing about $1.2 million. Most travel was to professional conferences and meetings per Max Bickford, executive officer of the Board of Regents.
Garden City residents will receive their new telephone directories next week. Southwestern Bell manager Bob Wright notes the outer cover features a Kansas sunset and an ecological theme highlighting the Sunflower State as a healthy place to live. The directories serve as local and long distance calling information and include emergency numbers and Yellow Pages listings. Wright advises customers to check old directories before disposal to avoid losing important papers.
Figures show state travel last year reached 2.8 million with 435900 trips costing 235282 in state tax funds for out-of-state travel. The Employment Security Division spent 67307 on 266 trips funded by federal dollars. Governor Docking’s office spent 6114 on 52 trips. 32 trips in 1970 cost 4452. Per diem for in-state travel remains low, with hotel and meal costs often exceeding $12 per day.
