Fire Chief Allen Shelton reports a cigarette left in an ashtray on a bed rolled onto the bed, starting the Holcomb residence fire at 611 W Taylor Jones Rd Friday at 6 55 p m. Firefighters from Holcomb and Garden City contained the blaze by 9 12 p m. No injuries were reported and the home owner Albert Klaus was present outside during the incident.

Child Plays With Matches Start Mobile Home Fire
Garden City firefighters extinguished a mobile home blaze in East Garden Village causing over 20000 dollars in damage. The fire at 12 49 p m started when a four year old boy lit matches in his bedroom and the curtains caught fire. Fire spread to a bathroom and a second bedroom with heavy damage. No injuries reported. Firefighters remained about an hour on scene.

Five DUI arrests in Garden City saturation patrol
Eleven Garden City police officers stopped 25 vehicles and arrested five for DUI during a saturation patrol late Saturday into Sunday morning aimed at drunken drivers. Officers issued one open-container citation and two seat-belt tickets. five drivers faced DUI charges, with three refusing breath tests. One detainee, Edgar Cuaraque, 22, was cited for a second DUI after a prior hit and run and damage to a boat.
