City records 16 accidents in icy Garden City streets
Icy and snow packed roads caused 16 accidents in Garden City from Wednesday into Thursday morning. In Kansas Avenue’s four lane corridor two consecutive crashes disrupted traffic for over an hour Wednesday afternoon. Police logged 11 non injury crashes and five hit and run incidents, many at intersections, all blamed on slick conditions. A mid day two car wreck at Center and Kansas prompted traffic control actions including directing trucks away from the route. A miscommunication led to a tractor trailer jackknifing across eastbound lanes after a turn at Kansas and 3rd, delaying traffic nearly two hours before flow resumed. Driver Rodney R. Jantzen, Cimarron, for Proeh] Brother's Trucking of Pierceville, collided with Brenda S. Sanchez, 1508 N. 8th.
