Quintana mother recalls joy her daughter shared
Quintana, a Garden City area sophomore, was found dead Tuesday morning in an alley behind 1009 N Fourth Street. Police treat it as a homicide after a tip led to a Dumpster discovery. Family and friends mourn, noting Quintana’s faith and close ties to Deerfield Lakin and Garden City communities. Funeral services are planned for Monday at the United Methodist Church in Deerfield.

Water rate rise urged in Wheatland contract change
City officials review proposed increases from Wheatland Electric for fixed monthly fees and per thousand gallon water costs. Mahnken argues rising energy and chemical costs justify higher charges while noting Garden City remains among the lowest priced First Class cities. He presents options, believes the Wheatland contract offers best access to water at reasonable cost, and urges commission approval.

City Link expands in second year under Finney County transit chief
City Link grew beyond a single fixed route in its second year. FIT director Burgardt, who moved from a senior center receptionist role in 1982, now oversees fixed-route and Mini Bus services with over 20 paid staff. The system, started in 2007, broadened hours to 6 a.m. to last loop, expanding access for disabled riders, students, and workers.
