Winter Weather Hits Southwest Kansas Counties

Snow and ice snarled roads across southwest Kansas with downed limbs and power outages. Hamilton County reported one non injury vehicle rollover after noon Tuesday due to ice while Lane County area outages affected half of Dighton. Stanton and Stevens counties also faced outages with Hugoton as a main outage center. Garden City saw mostly rain with 1.07 inches recorded at the airport. temps near 32 this morning as forecasters expect 2 to 4 more inches of snow through Thursday. City crews worked early to clear slick spots.

Bell Ringers Help Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive

Stu Childers stood beside Wal-Mart's automatic doors wearing a Santa hat and jacket as he rang a bell to support The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign in Garden City. Dozens of volunteers and workers ring at six locations including Dillons, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Sears and Walgreens to raise funds for year round aid. public drive runs through mid December.

Salvation Army seeks $60,000 aid in 2006 drive

Salvation Army aims to raise 60,000 in 2006 with 30,000 from bell ringing and 30,000 from mail appeals and other donations. Auxiliary Capt. Craig Lurtz urged participation during the Saturday night event to support bell ringers and red kettles.

Garden City man dies after Tyson plant accident

Mario Gonzalez Luna a 56 year old Garden City man died at a Wichita hospital from injuries suffered December 12 in an industrial incident at Tyson Fresh Meats Inc plant near Holcomb He was struck on the head by two metal doors while securing them for a forklift to move onto a ramp He was airlifted after EMS responded and died Sunday at Via Christi Regional Medical Center per Sedgwick County Coroner’s office The Finney County Sheriff office did not dispatch to the incident and could not confirm further details.
