Christmas services go ahead at burned cathedral
Damage from a fire at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine will not stop Christmas services. The blaze destroyed a gift shop and damaged two 17th century Barberini tapestries. Two events were moved to cathedral grounds auditorium while others await determination. The cause remained unknown, and firefighters confined the blaze to the shop next to the nave. The cathedral, begun in 1892, features vast stained glass and an unfinished tower site.
