Local teacher Nikki Allen earns Health Champion Award
Nikki Allen, Jennie Wilson Elementary literacy coach and health champion, received the Health Champion Award from the Kansas Governor’s Council on Fitness, recognized for wellness education at Jennie Wilson and Victor Ornelas Elementary. She led walks, a running club, Walk Your Child to School Day, and four 5K fundraisers with a Sunflower Foundation grant to build a community walking trail. The project raised about $18,000 for the trail and $6,000 locally, with the trail now completed and the school planning future events and drive donations for local nonprofits.
