Grandma volunteers bridge generations at Dighton preschool
Orpha Stormont and Ruth Dundas, dubbed grandmas, spend 45 minutes twice a week helping 3- and 4-year-olds at the Dighton pre school. Betsy Hineman started the program to connect seniors with youngsters, benefiting both groups and allowing staff to focus on other tasks. Dundas, a hospital employee with six grandchildren, says children brighten the elderly and that she enjoys their visits despite family being far away.

Grandmas Enrich Preschool Kids With Reading Corner
Read aloud sessions brighten a Garden City preschool as grandmothers like Dundas and Orpha Stormont read to children. They form close bonds, share joy with a thankful teacher, and note how intergenerational visits aid their own sense of community through December events and ongoing service groups.
