A bomb exploded at the Imam Hussein Shrine gate in Karbala killing seven and wounding 31, including a top aide to Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani. Police said the aide Sheik Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayee was among the injured as others including bodyguards died or were hurt. The attack occurred amid Iraq's election campaign and regional violence.
