Digital Doppler arms Sunset speed trap on curves
Los Angeles police deploy eight Digital Doppler speed guns along a nine mile Sunset Boulevard stretch from Beverly Hills to the Pacific Ocean to catch speeders. Two-man teams clock speeders with one officer pursuing while a second tracks the cars. The device measures speed via a reflected radio beam and stores readings for court use, tested against a tuning fork for accuracy. Manufactured by CMI Inc. of Minturn Colorado, these guns cost about 700 dollars each and are favored for dangerous curvy sections where traditional setups are impractical.
