No Court Ruling On Christmas In Public Schools
The Supreme Court did not ban Christmas in public schools and officials nationwide say they interpret this as allowing festive activities. Teachers and students decorate trees hang wreaths rehearse carols plan pageants and even build Nativity scenes. Authorities differ on what constitutes sectarian elements with some calling for historical exercises and others preferring non religious holiday programs. In Albuquerque Nativity scenes may be seen as sectarian while New York State urges historical framing. In Colorado some schools soften the religious motif adding Buddhist hymns or replacing with a generic holiday program.

Kansas Attorney General Doubts 105 Member House
Topeka AP. Kansas Attorney General William Ferguson warned a 105 member House may violate the federal constitution. He cited a 1963 controversy when a similar measure failed, noting 125 member House currently includes 105 counties one seat each and 20 seats for the largest counties. Ferguson’s view contrasts Gov. Anderson who supports legality. The Supreme Court’s pending decisions on reapportionment could alter federal interpretation and affect Kansas’ one-seat-per-county plan and the equal proportions method urged by the governor.
