Free musical programs at Garden Valley this week

Woman found dead after freezing night near Leon

Beth Ann Noffsinger 30 of El Dorado disappeared with fiancé near a field in Leon as temperatures fell below freezing. Deputies and patrols searched with air support and found her body about 6:45 a.m. An autopsy is requested and there are no signs of trauma or foul play.

Holcomb USD 363 board approves a 1 047 700 bid from Dick Construction Garden City for Holcomb Elementary remodel. Architects note bids were close with potential deducts to meet budget and change orders to adjust costs. Brownback to merge juvenile with adult corrections in 2013

Gov. Sam Brownback announced plans to fold the Juvenile Justice Authority into the Department of Corrections in 2013, arguing audits show a failed social services approach. He aims to issue an executive order early next year, with 30 days for the order and 60 days for lawmakers to act, or it takes effect July 1.

Kansas to end free licenses for seniors 65 to 74

Kansas will end a 1971 policy giving free hunting and fishing licenses to residents 65 to 74 starting January. The change aims to raise 0.9 to 1.5 million dollars in fee revenue and boost federal funds for wildlife programs. 75 and older remain exempt.
