County funds program slack to keep Youth Services running
Commissioners praised the county for picking up the slack after initial grant funds run out calling it one of the best statewide. The Star project grant will let Youth Services with USD 457 and the Juvenile Detention Center run a four year pilot through corrections facilities, with a case manager helping juveniles transition back to the community. Sedgwick and Johnson counties also received the grant while the state could expand it statewide. Emergency Medical Services leaders highlighted growing bariatric transport needs noting a 480 pound patient could not fit in a regular vehicle and required transfer to another county, signaling a need for better equipment for morbidly obese patients.
