Kansas AG asks court to block EPA ethanol emissions rules
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt seeks a federal appeals court ruling to block EPA MOVES2014 emission rules for states, arguing the model inaccurately predicts higher pollution from ethanol blends. Nebraska AG joins, with Energy Future Coalition and Urban Air Initiative, saying the move harms ethanol industry and farmers.

Brownback Cuts Kansas Budget To Close Immediate Gap
Governor Sam Brownback ordered a 4 percent cut to state agency budgets and shifted 200 million from dedicated funds to cover a 280 million hole for the current year ending June 30. The move faces Legislature approval and spares funding for schools, higher education, and Medicaid for now. The state still faces a 436 million deficit next year, with plans to alter the school finance formula and reduce unsustainable non classroom spending. Transportation funds cover highway needs while longer term highway program remains on track, aided by higher projected sales tax and federal revenue.
