Youth dominates All-Area XC team
Rebeca Avelar, a Stanton County sophomore, led her team with a seventh place at the Class 2A girls state cross country meet in Wamego finishing 15 47.80, just 56 seconds from first. She also starred in volleyball, winning six of eight meets and league regional titles, as coach Mike Norton praised her leadership and plans to focus on running. Luis Carmona, a Garden City senior, finished seventh at Rim Rock Farm in 16 29.70 in his final cross country race after transferring from Texas, balancing soccer duties the night before.
