Early childhood education boosts long term success in study
The Abecedarian Project shows high quality early care improves cognitive, reading, and math outcomes into adulthood. Among 111 low-income children, 105 in follow up show more schooling, higher college attendance, and greater later employment. Mothers of intervention children also fared better, especially teen mothers, with welfare reform and parental employment rising as quality care remains pivotal. The program’s curriculum is detailed in two books, Learning Games For The First Three Years by Joseph Sparling and Isabelle Lewis.
