Sublette fete honors Romanian immigrants in warm welcome
About 100 people gathered at Janie Welsh’s ranch home in Sublette to honor Florentin and Anca Juncan and their children Dan and Roxi. US Senator Sam Brownback praised the family and the town’s support during their asylum process from Romania. The Juncans, who arrived in 1992, have built lives in Kansas, with Florentin’s agronomy work and Anca’s chemistry role, while their daughter was recently accepted to KU School of Pharmacy.

Henry Hall 95 dies after long life of giving back
Henry Hall, 95, died Sunday at St. Catherine Hospital after a month with pneumonia. A shrewd businessman, he and wife Nellie funded scholarships and endowments for the Presbyterian Church, Garden City Community College, McPherson College, Spirit of the Plains CASA, and others. He donated more than 25,000 to the Garden City Family YMCA over 10 to 15 years and left a lasting legacy through the Henry Hall Scholarships. Hall served in the Coast Guard during World War II, built the Henry Hall Agency, and remained active in civic groups and public speaking well into old age.

Finney County Commission plans to decide Monday whether to join a lawsuit with the Kansas Association of Counties and others challenging Gov. Graves authority to cut state transfers. Also on the agenda are EMS, health department updates, county health insurance review, and a lunch with the Finney County Historical Society Board.
