DNA study reinforces out of Africa evolution theory
A Swedish German study of 53 mitochondrial genomes supports the out of Africa model, tracing modern humans to a common African ancestor about 170000 years ago and a migration begun around 50000 years ago. Africans show about twice the genetic diversity, and a rapid population expansion is dated to 38000 years ago.
