No Infertility Epidemic Found in 1982 to 1988 Study
The 1982 and 1988 National Surveys of Family Growth show the overall infertility rate did not rise. One in 12 women aged 15 to 44 had fertility problems, totaling 4.9 million in 1988, while married couples dropped from 8.5 to 7.9 percent. Despite misconceptions, numbers grew due to aging baby boomers and delayed childbearing, with more people seeking treatments and coverage rising.
