Technology costs rise as Hays Medical Center expands
Hays Medical Center budgets 65 million dollars annually for capital projects, about 5.4 percent of its 120 million operating budget. The hospital coordinates rare equipment like a PET CT scanner to avoid patient travel to Wichita and notes physician-driven testing contributes to rising costs, while expanding cardiology with less invasive options. The facility, a regional hub and part of the Northwest Kansas Health Alliance, weighs equipment needs against staff and nearby access, with CT scanners and other gear purchased to meet current patient demand.
