Salvation Army runs out of food in Hutchinson
In Hutchinson, the Salvation Army Commodities distribution served about 500 people but only 280 low income residents could receive food. Maj. John McCarty said about 250 food boxes were handed out, with more turnout than supply. The program relies on USDA Emergency Food Assistance, supplying canned meat, powdered milk, and canned produce to help families in need. Beverly Pennel traveled 40 minutes but was turned away. McCarty urged looking to other area food banks for assistance.
