Finney County Wheat Pasture Scarcity Hurts Wintering Costs
Reports indicate a large area of Finney County wheat lacks a strong crown root for anchorage, especially dryland fields, causing few cattle on wheat pasture. Observations from northern Kearny and Wichita Counties show more wheat being pastured, implying higher wintering costs and the need for adequate rations. Guidance outlines several wintering feed mixes for steer calves, noting feeds vary by quality and calf size, with supplements and a diethylstilbestrol implant boosting gains. Farmers Home Administration has moved to 1003 E Fulton, Garden City.
