Topeka rabbi backs Syrian refugee letter to Congress
Rabbi Debbie Stiel of Temple Beth Sholom joined more than 1,000 rabbis nationwide signing a Congress letter urging welcoming Syrian refugees. She cited WWII fears and lessons from the S S St Louis and Anne Frank family restrictions, urging careful vetting without closing doors. Kansas rabbis joined the effort as Gov Brownback issued an executive order blocking state agency participation in relocating Syrian refugees to Kansas.
