Kansas school funding suit nears trial amid reform proposal
Attorneys for Schools for Fair Funding say the Kansas case remains in discovery and will go to trial in June. Gov. Brownback proposes overhauling the state finance formula, which critics say would not end the lawsuit and may shift funding responsibility to local districts. The case traces back to Monroy and Mack rulings that funding must ensure equal educational opportunities, challenging changes that would raise local control and alter weightings for at risk or bilingual students.
