Rabbit menace tackled by ounce of strychnine in Western Kansas

Former Local Woman Slain in Andover Shooting

A former Finney county resident and Mrs. Margie Parsons were shot to death late last night in Andover amid a family quarrel. Mrs. Claude James, who lived near Garden City on the Andrew Larson farm until two months ago, is identified as the other victim.

Big BD Crashes. Ten Killed at California Base

A B52 bomber crashed during takeoff at Castle Air Force Base near Merced California killing all ten aboard. Eyewitnesses described a streak of fire and a massive explosion as the eight-jet craft disintegrated in a plowed field four miles north of Merced. Firemen and base personnel reported wreckage strewn over several miles with nine bodies gathered in one area and the tenth nearby. This marks the third deadly B52 crash in California this year following incidents near Tracy in February and Madera in September.

Survivor of Crash in Wilds Near Nipigon Ontario

A U S Air Force B41 Stratojet crashed in rugged snow torn terrain west of Nipigon. Maj Robert M Slane 33 identified as survivor was picked up by heli Copter at Ray Lake and moved to Port Arthur hospital. Bushworkers and six planes joined search for other crew. Fire seen in Seagull Lake area last night.

Two Dighton women injured in county road crash

Two Dighton women were seriously injured when their car rolled over on a county road 16 miles northeast of Garden City. Mrs. Lavona Hutchins, 22, and Mrs. Freemari Hall, 43, both of Dighton, suffered fractures and cuts. Mrs. Hall’s son Eldon, 5, had minor injuries and was released. The Packard was demolished after the right rear tire blew out at about 55 mph on Mennonite road, sending the car into a ditch and onto its top.

Broughers to Leave Garden City Hotel After Retirement

John and Mrs. Brougher announce retirement from the Warren hotel with Tom Mahar named manager of the hotel operations. Paul Brougher becomes general manager as ownership shifts to the Brougher family and associates. The 1929-built hotel has long served the city and the Broughers will relocate to Kansas City.

Druggist Paul Crowell Dies in Kansas City

Paul AL Crowell 68 a veteran druggist of Pittsburg Kansas died last night at the University of Kansas Medical Center Kansas City. He began his drug store founded by his father Thomas J Crowell in 1690 making it the oldest in the area. Crowell served his second term on the State Pharmacy Board.

Finney county residents may nominate the Jaycees outstanding young farmer of the year. Nominations run through December 15 with blanks published in The Telegram and mailed to the Chamber of Commerce.
