Garden City high school marks teacher transition with new academies
Teachers with the old Garden City High School face shifts as four academies replace the prior setup. Destiny Saffer Kim Costa and Stephen Grieshaber praise the tailored approach and new technology inclining toward career paths. Saffer, a traveling special education English instructor, expects to cover more ground and use tech to tailor instruction for 166 students and 13 special needs cases. The academy model blends academic and technical curricula across four streams: Trade and Health Science Arts and Communications Public Service and Ninth Grade. Students rotate through academies yearly, aiming to better prepare for college and careers with iPads and related apps enhancing teaching and learning.
