Air National Guard reshaping faces base decisions
The BRAC panel backed restructuring of the Air National Guard while rejecting some Pentagon cuts. Ellsworth SD and Cannon NM bases stay open, with Cannon likely losing aircraft. McConnell KS gains 17 KC-135R tankers and 522 new jobs worth $430 million regionally. Forbes Field KS adds 12 aircraft and 247 jobs. Fort Riley KS vaults to be a major beneficiary with 2,700+ personnel. Total Kansas gains exceed 3,500 jobs by 2011 if Congress approves.
