Ethics panel may push campaign finance reforms in Kansas
Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission may urge lawmakers to tighten campaign finance rules. Chairman Daniel Sewart cites the lack of online filing and a last day 1 day gap in reporting as key weaknesses while noting surge in PAC spending in the Republican primary and the rise of out of state groups like Americans for Prosperity engaging in issue advocacy. The proposed model law would require full disclosure of final pre election contributions and electronic filing for campaigns above 10000 dollars, and mandate disclosure of issue ads over 25000 dollars aired 45 days before elections.
