Clean grain bins prep for harvest insect control
Kansas State and Nebraska Extension advise thorough bin and equipment cleaning before harvest to prevent grain storage insects. Store clean dry grain, remove old grain and debris from combines trucks and augers, seal holes, and maintain a four foot bare gravel strip around bins. Use proper aeration, watch moisture, and have electrical systems and fumigation done by certified applicators only. For guidance call the Extension office at 272 3670 in Whitey Whitehill.
