Royals first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz will undergo season ending back surgery in Los Angeles performed by Dr. Robert Watkins. The 32 year old, on the DL since July 26, will have a portion of an herniated disc removed after losing strength in one leg. He signed with Kansas City in December and hit .283 with four homers and 43 RBIs this season.
