HHS secretary touts drug benefit in Kansas tour
Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt toured Topeka with Sen. Sam Brownback and Attorney General Phill Kline to promote new federal Medicare prescription drug benefits set to begin enrollment November 15. About 70 seniors attended a public forum. 400,000 Kansans will be eligible. Some state officials warn the plan may create a Kansas budget issue, as federal rules push state savings totaling $16 million in 2006 and $37 million in 2007.
