Good apple crops reported in Kansas
Heat and drought blamed for smaller apples yet orchards report solid harvest across Kansas. At Steffen's Orchard near Conway Springs customers picked fruit while Suzanne Green and her son took home boxes of apples and peaches. Orchard owner Phil Steffen noted apples will be smaller but good, due to hot dry weather and partial irrigation. Ark Valley Orchard owner Jim Hardy said nightly watering preserved tree health but some losses occurred and fruit sizes dropped slightly.
