Kansas AG files friendly lawsuit on casino law
Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison filed a friendly lawsuit over a new gambling law to prompt the state Supreme Court to allow the first US resort casinos. The suit argues the plan risks insufficient state involvement despite a 1994 ruling that broadens the term lottery to include casino games. Morrison says the action is to press for a quick ruling and to clarify the pathway for casino investment.

Kearny County GOP reorganizes after stalled district links
Celia Beymer was elected chairwoman as Kearny County GOP members sought a reorganization to restore representation at district and state levels. Robin Jackson noted a limited window for reorganizing county central committees between the August primary and 14 days after the November general election, which had not occurred previously, leaving a hole in 69 county representation. Beymer and fellow committeemen pressed for chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer elects, with Beymer aiming to fill vacancies and restore delegate continuity.
