Activists question deaths at Scott County wild horse facility
Activists and horse enthusiasts criticize handling of 1,400 horses at Beef Belt LLC corral in Scott County where 7& of the herd died in two weeks. BLM relocated the animals after a pasture owner refused more arrivals and set a June deadline. Some horses were euthanized after being found unable to rise. Critics blame stress from the abrupt move, feeding and crowding issues, and possible diet problems. BLM has adjusted feeding quantities and density while stressing need for better management and animal care.
