Garden City to raise water rates and base charges
Garden City voters will see higher water costs after the city commission directed city attorneys to draft an ordinance increasing the minimum monthly base charge by 5.15 dollars and modestly raising usage rates. The increases finance Wheatland Electric Cooperative's 505000 dollar subsidy shift and fund aging infrastructure amid reports of low water pressure and discolored water in some areas. Offshore water from Wheatland accounts for about two million gallons daily blended with local supply.
