Reformers seek early bridge programs to boost college readiness
Trey Rasmussen excelled in hockey at Martha's Vineyard high school but earned mostly Cs in academics. A private yearlong bridge program at Bridgton Academy in Maine helped him become college ready and he completed his freshman year at Salve Regina University with a 3.0 average. The program reduces remediation needs and costs, a concern as many students face high tuition and repeated courses. At South Texas College, dual enrollment with high schools helps students gain credits and avoid postsecondary remediation.
